Christchurch Cathedral

Some times known as Cathedral church of christ, is located in the city of christchurch
Christchurch Cathedal was built between 1864 and 1904. which means it took 39 years.( I cant believe it took that long.)

Plans arrived in New Zealand 1864 but construction stop in late 1865 but there was not enough money.
In 1873 Benjamin Mountfort took over and started constuction again. so that means maybe it took 31 years to construct.

The Cathedral has been damaged from earthquakes lots of times, both during and after construction, the most resent in 2011 which destroyed the spire and part of the tower, and badly damaged the structure of the building. (so sad).

  1. Good morning Caleb,

Well, what an impressive and informative presentation of the Cathedral Church of Christ. I had no idea it took 39 years to build, and it must have taken a lot of money to stop midway construction.
Isn't it a beautiful building? I can come to an understanding that it took so long to build because the detail is incredible. How sad that it also fell victim to the Christchurch earthquake.

Do you have any sort of famous monument where you live?
In Adelaide, Australia, where I live when I'm not in New Zealand, they have the "Malls Balls" which are just two large steel balls stacked on top of one another. People can see their reflection as they walk past. They seem pretty pointless to me, but are still a huge attraction.

You've got a hefty sum of blog posts here Caleb, well done!

    Cheers,

    Jordan
