SLJ W4 D4 A2 Country Calendar

I think that everything is my favourite thing in farming.

I think the most challenging thing for farmers is the weather.

Yes I would want to be a farmer when I'm older because I love everything that you do except milking the cow's, because i'm not tall enough yet.

  1. Hi Caleb!

I feel like this was the perfect activity for you! You already have so much knowledge around what it takes to be a great farmer!

I am curious, how long has your Grandy had his farm for? Is it a family farm? What animals do you farm?

I think that the weather must be really hard to work around, I am not sure what it is like in Hokitika but up here in Auckland its changing constantly!! I also grew up in Wellington where the wind is nuts too!
What do you think is the worst kind of weather for a farmer??

Thank you for sharing your farming expertise Farmer Caleb! I look forward to hearing back from you :)

  2. Hi Ellee
I think the wet and cold weather over calving is hard, some times mum has to wrap them up in blankets and tube feed them nice warm colostrum milk to safe them. And the paddocks get so wet and muddy that the cows have to stand off on a speical stand off pad.
And also the dry summers when there is a drought, and there is no grass for the cows. That is hard times.

    1. Hi Farmer Caleb!

Thank you for telling me more about farming! It's really cool to learn about. It sounds like farming needs a perfect balance of weather, no extremes...Is that right? Little rain, little sun and that's how you keep the farmer and cows happy?

Sounds like a really hard job that your mum has to do to make sure the calves stay safe the poor wee things! Cows are my favourite farm animals ....I like to walk past them in the fields near my mum's house and watch them relaxing in the paddocks (sometimes they look like giant dogs the way they lay around!)

Thanks for the lessons Farmer Caleb - you are doing a great job with your blog, I look forward to reading your posts every time!
      Ellee :)
