NZ Victorian Cross Winner

Jack Hinton
Who : Sergeant John Daniel Hinton, aka Jack Hinton
When: 28-29 April 1941
Where: Kalamata, Greece 
What: When told to retreat Hinton shouted: " To hell with this!                 Who will join me?" And ran to the enemy field guns, and                 took them out with hand granaids, then stabbed the                           Germans inside two houses.
On 17 October 1941 He was told he had been awarded the VC as he lay in hospital recovering from a beating administered to him after trying to escape.

    Man, Jack Hinton sounds like a brave man! I think it is pretty fearless to up and start an attack on your own and to take out so many people, its a shame that he was injured and taken as a POW.

    I read before that he had made several escape attempts from the camp he was held at - I think he must have been a real character to meet in person!
    What do you think about Jack?
    What would you like to know about him if you could ask him something?
    I think I would like to know about his escape attempts and what happened with them!
